My sister Lizzy who inspired me in the first place by telling me to “Carpe Diem” asked me a few questions so here they are….
If you have a question you would like to be added you can ask it at the bottom.
1) When was your first cycle trip?
At the age of 16 me and two friends “cycled” round the Isle of Wight but after the third day we swapped our bikes and ended up hitching round. It doesn’t sound good does it? Since then I’ve conquered my fear of hills and cycle trips include London to Cornwall, London to Paris, Lands End to John O’Groats and the length of the Rhine.
2) Why are you doing the cycle odyssey?!
I didn’t want to look back in ten years and question why I had never fulfilled that long held dream. I truly believe if you want something enough, you can make it happen. I wanted adventure, challenge and change…. this seems to tick all of those boxes.
3) What would your 20 year old self think?
Blimey – that’s not what I expected!
4) What is the first thing you will do when you reach Tarifa?
I will run into the sea, and look over to Africa and maybe think …what’s the road like over there?
5) What are you most looking forward to?
I can’t wait to see the vistas of Northern Norway and some of the characters I will meet along the way.
6) What is your biggest fear of the trip?
The sense of loneliness may get to me. As Tom Hanks wisely said – “Loneliness is to be avoided, solitude is to be sought.” As a person who surrounds herself with family and friends it will take some getting used to not having that network on hand.
7) Geek or Glam?
With limited space I like to think that I have just about managed to cross the divide and gone for geek chic. I draw the line at zip off trousers.
8) What will be your road trip discs?
The upbeat of funk and soul to get me uphill (Pushin’ On by Quantic Soul Orchestra), a bit of indie to take me downhill (think Temper Trap Sweet Disposition) and the contemplative nature of Nils Frahm after a hard days cycle.
9) What will you miss?
Being able to starfish in my double bed. A larvae like sleeping bag and sleeping mat just aren’t the same.
10) Ask me a question!
